Jess in Japan · 日本のジェス

I'm sorry I can't be there right now, I'm off having an adventure

First day at school

Today was intense. After eventually finding my room I attended a one hour meeting, in Japanese followed by a two hour lecture, in Japanese. I did not understand a word! But, the lecture was given by Masae Bamba an artist who I actually discussed in my proposal to study at KCUA. It was quite a surprise to find that my very first lecture was given by her. She is going to be running a series of workshops at the university which I will be attending, unfortunately I didn’t understand what will be covered in the sessions but, all will be revealed in good time. At the moment, I’m still impressed that I’ve been able to get on and off the bus at the right stops!

I have also signed up for a weaving lessons Monday – Thursday 13:00 – 17:00. I say weaving lessons, this is what I hope they are although they were in fact described to me as tapestry lessons. I think something may have been lost in translation (hopefully). The course will run for 3 – 4 weeks and after this there will be the possibility to sign up to a dye course.
